I was pleased to have been the recipient of the Graphics Award for my pastel "Laundry Day Burano" at the Focus; Exploring our Regional Sense of Place 5th annual exhibition at the Butternut Gallery in Montrose, PA. The show was on display from May 17 - 26, 2013.
My inspiration for this painting came last spring when I visited the Island of Burano, just a few miles from Venice. A tiny island of pastel colored buildings, winding canals and locals painstakingly cleaning their walkways.
It was laundry day when I visited the island......miles of clean laundry hanging along every home and it smelled so wonderful! I was fascinated by the long shadows cast against each home that created interesting shapes and patterns. We were fortunate to have been there on a bright sunny day.
