This March, I had the opportunity to take a pastel workshop with Stan Sperlak at his Crow Creek studio in Goshen, New Jersey. His focus was buildings in the landscape.....a passion of mine! It was two days, with a relatively small class size, and was just the shot in the arm I needed to get motivated. The weather was surprisingly nice for March and it allowed us to paint indoors and out.
Both days offered early morning demonstrations, that were very well done, leaving much of the day to paint. I found his style to be much different from what I am used to....much looser, and that's a good thing because I often tell myself that I would like to step out of my comfort zone and paint a bit more loosely; more painterly in my approach.
As a group, we took some time to reflect and share our goals as artists and what we hoped to take away from the workshop. I'm certain that I came away with some new techniques and good advice to help me slow down and not get too crazy with the details.
