House and Business Portraits
There are so many special places in our lives that have significant meaning...a summer home, favorite vacation spot, a childhood home, or a business that has been in the family for generations. Places we've travelled to, raised our families, and spent time with friends. Cherish the memories you've made with an artistic representation of the places you love. Read more about my process and pricing below and feel free to get in touch with me on my contact page so we can talk about your ideas.
My process - a commitment to extraordinary service.
My process involves much more than just working from a photograph for your commissioned piece. I like taking my customers on a step by step journey, which begins with a discussion about your project. Next, I create a rough drawing for approval, and what follows will be ongoing updates through each color phase of the painting, right up to completion. I send photographs of the work in progress so as to educate on the pastel process and keep everyone up to speed on how the painting develops.
As with most of my work, I use soft pastels on museum grade, archival sanded paper, using photographs either taken by me or a favorite of the customer. When possible, I like to incorporate the dramatic effects of sunlight and shadow on a subject, so photographing early in the morning or close to the end of the day when shadows are long is best. I have a collection of photographs I've taken on my travels and not only use these for my own fine art paintings, but can use them for commissioned work as well.
Ideas are shared and discussions take place throughout, and my goal is for complete satisfaction with both the process and the end result. My style of painting is representational, yet painterly and colorful. I love capturing the character and essence of a home, building, or location...its charm and personality. Some prefer that I stay closely tied to the photograph and others allow for some creative interpretation. It's all very personal and part of the journey.
"Lisa Cunningham is a wonderfully talented artist who did a beautiful house portrait for us last year. I took some photos of our house because we were selling it. We raised our family in that house and it holds many fond memories for us. Lisa very carefully used my photos to create a portrait of our home with just the right amount of sunlight and shadows and did a beautiful job of adding detail to the flower boxes, trees and porch. She even added our dog lying on the front porch after the original sketch was created. Lisa also took additional photos to help her capture the proper feel of the home from the curbside. Lisa also did the matting and framing for us and it looks terrific! She provided us with finished product by delivering it directly to our home. We will enjoy this creation for years to come. I sincerely urge you to take advantage of Lisa’s artistic eye and exceptional talent."
I am pleased to share testimonials from some of my clients.
“As a soon to be empty nester, I wanted to have a painting of my home done before selling. Lisa’s depiction beautifully captured our home and the portrait will always be treasured as it reminds us of all of the happy memories made here. She is a consummate professional and provides updates all along the way so that you can see your portrait as it unfolds.”
"My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Lisa on a portrait of our home at Lake Winola. She was extremely easy and fun to work with. The transformation from the pictures she took to the actual painting were truly amazing and beyond our expectations."
"Thank you sooooo much! It really captures the feel of the house-it's the perfect memento for our family!!!!! Your work is beautiful and we are so happy we contacted you to have this done!!! I appreciate the beautiful job you did on this, we are so happy!!"
"When my husband and I saw a painting done by Lisa Cunningham we immediately knew that we wanted Lisa to do a portrait of our lake home. Lisa made it very easy to collaborate our ideas, along with her artist's eye. It was delightful to see the progress of the portrait step by step. The end result was beautiful and it will be treasured in our home for years to come."
"When we first saw a pastel portrait that Lisa Cunningham recently completed and displayed, we knew immediately we wanted “ONE” of our own. We approached Lisa about doing our funeral home which we were celebrating our 30-year anniversary in business. Lisa accepted and with passion and her inspiration she took us on our journey. As a novice in the art arena, Lisa helped us understand her actions and comprehend the true value of her work. Lisa would reach out to us, invite us to see the beauty of the portrait as it unfolded. She was meticulous and took personal pride in ensuring all details were addressed. Lisa was very generous with her time. Her expertise was trusted completely. She is a very talented lady and dear friend. The pastel portrait of the Louis J. Rapoch Funeral Home exceeds our expectations. She even helped select the appropriate matting and framing to embrace its beauty. She delivered the piece and helped display it in the viewing area for all to enjoy. As people come and go, it captures their sight and we receive kind compliments, but the true value is that the portrait will be with us forever, and is a testament of how proud we are of our service to our community and how we’ve grown as a couple. We are extremely privileged to own a pastel portrait designed by Lisa Cunningham, professional artist."

"We had to sell our family seashore home. I had been thinking of how to preserve a lasting and fitting memory of a place with so much prominence in our lives (especially since most homes at the Seashore tend to get torn down and there is no going back). A framed photograph did not seem like it would do the trick. Luckily, a postcard came from Lisa Cunningham which showcased her pastel paintings of homes. We met at our home and Lisa took pictures of the house. From that point forward, everything occurred via email. It was effortless on our part. Lisa sent the photographs, and we chose the one we wanted and the size. As Lisa explained that pastels are applied in layers, she sent pictures of the various stages of the painting, which we saved. It was so interesting to see this process as it unfolded. After we settled on the finished work with all of the last touches, I asked Lisa to frame the work. Lisa sent various frames and mat choices and she used UV glass. Again, all through email, Lisa was able to portray how the work would appear with mat selection and frame. Lisa shipped the artwork to our home and we have it proudly displayed on our living room wall. We are so very pleased with the painting and every time we look at it we feel like we brought our special seashore memory home with us. It was great working with Lisa Cunningham on this project!!!"

"We originally met Lisa at the Stone Harbor Craft Fair. I was mesmerized by the pieces she had on display. I circled back around a couple times just so I could look at her work. My husband and I both agreed that her work was simply beautiful. We commissioned Lisa to do a painting of our home at the Jersey Shore. This home is a dream home for us. We love this house and we love spending time at the shore. Not only is her work amazing but Lisa is a lovely person and extremely accommodating. She updated us on her progress and the final piece is as beautiful as we knew it would be. We are so grateful to her for creating a piece of artwork that we will treasure forever."

Commissions of the Places You love
I worked with this couple on creating a piece that would complement the interior decor of their beautiful mediterranean style home. We looked through photos that I took during my travels to Italy and decided on something they liked as a reference. As with all of my commission work, I involved my clients throughout the entire process, from rough drawings, to the final painting.
In my studio with the paintings, framed and ready for delivery. The Villa Cimbrone sits atop the town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast in Italy and overlooks the mediterranean. These pieces are titled, "The Villa Cimbrone" and "The Villa Cimbrone II."
"The Scranton Canoe Club is a place that is close to our hearts and holds many memories. My husband grew up here playing golf with his dad and years later it was the place we chose to have our wedding reception. My husband really wanted to have it painted by Lisa and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Through her attention to detail and use of light, Lisa captured the beauty of the Canoe Club so perfectly."
