As a child, I always had a sketch pad and pencil with me wherever I went. At family gatherings I would find a quiet corner to sit and draw cartoon characters and then give them away to everyone. I knew then that I wanted to become an artist.
I pursued my passion and earned degrees in fine art and art education. But after college, the practical side of me pursued a human services career and then I got married and started a family. My dreams of becoming an artist were on hold.
It wasn’t until recently that I re-discovered my passion for painting and photography and realized that the two together play a significant role for me in the creative process. I enjoy painting with oils and pastels and am inspired by people, animals, nature and the everyday, simple joys of life.
Admittedly, picking up a paintbrush again after my hiatus has been a challenging yet exhilarating experience. Blank paper and canvases are becoming less intimidating and my creative endeavors are a work in progress for sure.
